UPDATE – THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW SOLD OUT.
Well this is exciting – our first workshop for 2017!
Guest teacher Emiko Davies is in Australia next month and more specifically for the purposes of this post – coming to Orange to co-host a one day food photography and styling workshop with me, at the Old Convent. We will start our day with a visit to a local orchard to pick figs then take them back to the old convent for some preserving, cooking and shooting. We’ll be cooking from Emiko’s beautiful new book Aquacotta and she’ll have some preview copies to purchase (it’s not actually released until March). Then a shared lunch, an afternoon workshop session shooting, styling and sharing our advice and tips on editing, collaborating and social media, before we finish the day by visiting a local vineyard for a glass of prosecco and canapés. $250pp includes full day workshop, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Bookings are now open, please click here.
Date – Friday February 24 (go on – take the day off, it will TOTALLY be worth it)
Cost – $250pp
Time 9.30-4pm
Workshop schedule*
9.30am – Meet at the Old Convent. A brief overview of the day ahead will be followed by an introduction to how Emiko and Sophie shoot plus some basic i-phone and camera photography tips to take with us as we shoot through the day. Because we only have limited time, rather than diving too deep into technical teachings, we will focus more on composition, perspective, ‘chasing’ beautiful light and finding your own style.
10.30 – We go for a short drive (10mins) to visit a local orchard where we will have the chance to shoot and share a beautiful morning tea among the fruit treas (iced tea and a sweet tart), then we will pick a few baskets of fruit together to take back to the Old Convent. Emiko and Sophie will be moving through the group all the time assisting participants as they shoot al fresco food, lifestyle and still life scenes.
11.30 – Back to the Old Convent where Emiko will demonstrate a recipe from her new book and then show us how she sets up, styles and shoots a scene. Participants will have the chance to assist and set up their own scenes too.
1pm – Shared lunch by local cook Josie Chapman in the beautiful Old Convent Kitchen matched with local wine.
2pm – Hands on styling and photography session with Emiko and Sophie. Everyone will get the chance to style and shoot their own scene using beautiful seasonal produce and a range of lovely props.
3-4pm – Afternoon tea and Q&A-style workshop session covering everything from how to find your own visual voice and style to using apps such as Instagram to connect, build your profile and hone your original voice.
*Schedule is subject to changes (depending on weather etc).

What a dream. I wish I was there – I will make sure to follow vicariously from here. I still hope to be able to come and visit your stunning farm one day.
