This kitchen is piled with apples, pears and quinces and we are baking and preserving like crazy. Alice is very much in on the act and has recently decided that muffins are her thing. So here is her recipe, it’s easy and delicious but please, if keen to try it yourself, do refer to the edited version rather than the hand-written one pictured above!
Here at Mandagery Creek Venison-central, we are also busy preparing for F.O.O.D Week which kicks off on Friday. All Farm Kitchen events are sold out except for lunch this Saturday (we’ve four spots left, so if keen please email me), but we are looking forward to participating in Forage and the Cook Park Sunday Market on April 21.
And one last note; for the past year or so I’ve been posting a list of links to recipes and weekend reading every Friday. This has been a little tricky to sustain recently, so for now at least, the Friday List will morph into a monthly list of virtual goodness. April’s is on its way!

Hi Jane – so sorry about the late reply, have been unable to comment here for the past couple of weeks – no idea why! But should be all fixed now! Re quinces, hope I’m not too late, but here we tend to pick them when the fruit feels ‘ready’ to be pulled away from the tree. You shouldn’t have to pull hard, the quinces should come away quite easily. Not sure if that helps! Sophie

Hi Jane – I think, the best time to pick quinces is when the have lots of lovely ‘fluff’ on the skin and come away from the tree easily. If they resist at all, give them a couple more days or weeks! Sophx
